The Trackball 2 for LS8 is used mainly in ultrasound and other Digital Imaging (DI) healthcare devices. It is an assembly that consists of a laser-type trackball 2 and pyxis cable. It is used for the replacement purpose in the operator panel. It is mounted in the operator panel of the device. It communicates with the ultrasound’s host computer over a USB through a HUB built into the operator panel electronics. Over USB, the trackball position data and the status of the mouse buttons are communicated via a standard Microsoft driver. The cable is necessary as the trackball replaces a previous design that had an integral cable for connecting to the mouse buttons. Both the trackball and the cable are safely packed with adequate protection to survive the drop test. As this works on the laser, the integrated circuit with optics take continual snapshot of ball surface and how the features in these snapshots move is used to detect ball motion.
